For mothers who are being thwarted in their attempts to nurse their babies; Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for help. In this time of trouble I call, for you will answer me. Psalm 86: 6-7
Why Natural Breastfeeding Makes Sense Versus Lactation Industry Misinformation
Sadly, the gift of breastfeeding has been tainted by poor information.
Breastfeeding techniques used to be taught mother to mother.
Natural techniques were taught, babies thrived, and mothers benefitted
from the many advantages of being a nursing mother.
But this has changed...
These positions are time tested and effective. The pictures on this page show the positions that HELP a mom to breastfeed.
The Cradle Hold Position is effective from birth through weaning, including for preemies once they can suck and swallow.
The Lap Nursing Position is helpful for moms who have a shorter torso and large breasts that baby can latch onto while lying across mother's lap
The T-Cradle Hold Position is helpful after a C-Section.
The Lying Down Position helps moms get more rest and makes it easier to respond to baby's nighttime needs.
Breastfeeding twins in the Cradle Hold Position is effective and comfortable.
The pictures on this page show the positions that HINDER a mom's ability to breastfeed. We strongly caution mothers against using the following positions. They often cause many problems.
This website was developed as a response to the problems and suffering that mothers go through when using the Cross Cradle Hold and other poor breastfeeding positions and techniques.
These include latch on problems, sore nipples and breasts, insufficient milk supply, low weight gain for baby, sore wrists, arms, shoulders, neck, and back for mom, and premature weaning,
Mother's bodies respond to baby's sucking by either increasing or decreasing the milk supply. This is the 'Supply and Demand Mechanism' of breastfeeding.
Lactating mamas have overcome breastfeeding difficulties by listening to what their body is 'saying' to them, by taking action when there is pain or discomfort, and by learning from others who have walked this path before.
Sore nipples and sore breasts are a call to action. They are saying to mom that something is wrong, something needs changing.
From bonding to nutrition, to protection from disease, for the protection of the Earth's resources, for the opportunity to set up the optimal gut microbiome in your baby, which provides an inter-generational opportunity to positively affect the health of your child's future family, Natural Breastfeeding Makes Sense!
Cautions
Politics and Breastfeeding:
Lactation Industry Misinformation,
Monetization, and Politicization
When mothers have the correct breastfeeding information, problems can be avoided, and babies can thrive. If someone tells you that to breastfeed you need to buy a product or pay for a lactation service, a red warning flag should go up in your mind.
Mothers have breastfed their babies since the beginning of humankind. They didn't use or need any products. They learned the skills they needed from other mothers; they learned mother to mother.
How does one transition from using products to being able to nurse without them?
This includes information on the competing forces, that mothers around the world, have had to deal with in trying to breastfeed their babies.
BreastfeedingSense.Com is my response to all the mothers who are trying to breastfeed their babies, but are being thwarted by lactation misinformation. Also included is information on how to teach mothers correct natural breastfeeding.
